Overcomer

I watched a film yesterday called Overcomer.

It was a great Christian film that showed how the characters could overcome no matter the obstacles.

In particular, one girl had asthma, but her dream was to become a cross-country runner, which did not stop her.

This story touched me; it reminded me that no matter the circumstance, you will overcome it.

The story of Jesus portrays an almighty trial.

He suffered and died for our sins and rose from the dead.

He overcame death and hell.

This is confirmed in 1 Corinthians 15:54-57, which describes the victory of Jesus conquering death and Hades.

“ I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades” (Revelation 1:18).

Hallelujah

Jesus has given us the power to overcome

We must believe and have faith!

1 John 5:4-5 tells us:

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcomes the world even our faith. Who is it that overcomes world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the son of God”.

Faith is the key to victory!

As followers of Christ, we are often tested and tried daily.

In 1 John 16:33, Jesus says:

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world”.

Jesus grants us peace, but this does not come without trials. This scripture encourages us not to let our hearts become troubled.

The Bible tell us, “Do not be anxious for nothing” (Philippians 4:6).

But trust in Him as He has already done it!

In the last written word I wrote, I explained how God is omniscient, all-knowing :

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them” (Psalm 139:16).

It has already been planned out.

You have already gotten through the thing you are worrying about today.

The Bible declares, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Matthew 6:34).

You may be waiting for a breakthrough in your situation, but whatever it may be, “take heart, as Jesus has overcome.”

You have already overcome your circumstances.

Sometimes, we may feel unqualified, like the little girl in the film. Many people did not think she could run because of her condition.

Have believe in yourself.

Trust in the ability God has given you.

The Bible tells us we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).

Nothing lacking.

Praise God, we are also blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Therefore, the Holy Spirit within is far greater than any obstacle or attack from the devil.

The Holy Spirit is our ultimate Helper.

Isaiah 41:13 declares:

For I the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who says to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you”.

We must trust in God.

He is always faithful.

Sometimes, people may not understand the battle you are going through or the season you are in.

A phrase is often spoken: ‘People do not know what you are going through unless they have experienced it for themselves’.

But God understands.

God will provide people around you to encourage, strengthen, and pray for you.

When you run to God, He will always lift you.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10).

Have you always thought and looked back on your life? How did you get through that..?

When my mother was diagnosed with cancer, the experience was so challenging for me to bear, seeing her go through palliative care and watching her take her final breaths, then shortly having to deal with the matters after her passing.

At the time, I felt I could barely get through the next day, but I remember that God and my faith pushed me through.

Despite the difficulties, I overcame that traumatic period of my life, and I live today healed from grief.

Once you have been through something and you can see firsthand the Goodness of God, I know that I can prevail over anything the devil throws at me in the future.

It is written in Romans 8:37:

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

In all things!

It does not say one thing or a few things; it says all, meaning you can conquer no matter what.

You will and shall have the victory!

We are often in the waiting process and may not have overcome our situation yet, but do not be discouraged in your waiting.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

As shared previously in another written word, the trials we face often make us who we are and help us to ‘grow in grace’.

True character is revealed when pressure is applied.

There are men/women of God in the bible who had to show perseverance:

Job endured suffering, Moses was a leader of rebellious people (Israelites), Joseph had to rise above injustice and betrayal, David overcame personal struggles and external adversities, Esther faced determination and courage in genocide, Daniel had to remain faithful and steadfast in a foreign land, and Paul received persecution but remained dedicated.

What would have become of the greatest bible stories had they not pressed through?

What is the outcome of your defeat?

Sometimes, we may want to give up, but we must persevere.

Cross-country running is one of the hardest sports in high school. Runners must have good judgement, show resilience, be tactically aware, and overcome obstacles.

Similarly, our faith should possess these qualities.

We may not see it now, but we have our assurance in God.

In James 1:12 reminds us :

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him”.

Our joy and success are on the way.

Remember, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

You shall finish your race!

PRAYER

Father, in The Name of Jesus,

We give you thanks and Praise,

We give you all the honour and glory,

We thank you for your goodness,

Thank you for the price you paid for us,

The sacrifice you gave,

Forgive us again,

Cleanse us,

Thank you for the freedom from death,

Through your salvation,

Strengthen our faith in you,

Thank you for being our helper,

Let us be free from worry or doubt,

May we not worry about tomorrow,

Let us have confidence in your promises,

Let us believe in your faithfulness,

Give us good judgment and wisdom,

Thank you for the gift of The Holy Spirit,

We declare we shall overcome,

We shall have the victory,

We are more than conquerors,

Lift us, Lord,

We affirm Deuteronomy 28:13: “We are the head and not the tail

We are above and not beneath.”

Satan is under our feet,

We declare, “You are our strength, our feet are like hind’s feet,

You will make us walk upon high places” (Habakkuk 3:19).

May we remain steadfast and immovable (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Thank you for the things you have already brought us through and are bringing us through,

You are preparing the way,

Let us keep trusting your plans and will,

Let us be patient with your timing,

Thank you that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

But may we obtain the right character.

May these trials shape us and mould us.

Give us supernatural resilience,

May we defeat every obstacle,

We know we can do all things in you (Philippians 4:13).

We shall accomplish every trial.

We will trust in your word.

What the enemy meant for evil, we have assurance you will turn it around for good (Genesis 50:20-22).

We will persevere,

We will receive joy and success,

I know everything will work together for our good (Romans 8:28).

May we continue to run our race,

We give you thanks,

We give you all the honour and praise,

In your precious Holy Name,

Amen
