I was planning to write this word around Father’s Day; this word has been on my heart, but due to my current schedule, I got sidetracked.
The Lord put it on my heart again today to begin.
Jeremiah 31:3:
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love”.
You may be reading this word today, but I want to remind you of God’s love for you; His love has no end.
Like relationships that fade, He remains the same, everlasting.
I have discussed in the past my estranged relationship with my birth father.
I never had that father-and-daughter relationship with my Dad, as often remarked and spoken about.
My Father never took me to the park or did things with me growing up, so I always had a longing for a father figure in my life.
When I decided to live with my Mum in my teenage years, around the age of 14, after 10 years separated from each other, my Dad cut me off completely.
Although we did not have the best relationship, it still had an impact on me.
I came to Christ when I was 15 years old. I got baptised; I wanted to surrender and follow Jesus.
I’ve always believed from a young age.
Even though I gave my heart to the Lord, I was still battling with the hurt, childhood trauma and rejection.
I had not received healing and dealt with the emotional wounds that had formed throughout my childhood.
At the beginning, it was hard for me to feel the love of God, as I had never experienced that Fatherly love.
I did not truly embrace the sonship that God was offering through salvation, as described in Ephesians 1:5: ‘he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, accordance with his pleasures and will.’
That blessed sacrificial love.
God as a compassionate, merciful Father.
Sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us and redeem us from our sins.
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Even though I knew all this as a child of God, I appreciated His sacrifice but I did not feel adopted; it took many years to discover that I was.
I felt misunderstood, and I felt alone.
Ultimately, I made the wrong choices; I stumbled into sin and spent time backslidden and away from God.
It was not until 2020, 5 years later, that God welcomed me back like the prodigal son in Luke 15:20 after I repented and gave my life back to Him.
I remember specifically being in my bedroom and feeling the overpowering love of God as His presence filled the atmosphere.
He met me where I was.
Despite what I had done, even though I did wrong against Him, He never left me.
He never abandoned me.
You may feel far away from God today.
I want to remind you of Romans 8:39: “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
God has been a constant in my life even when I did not realise it.
How He always protected and covered me even when I wasn’t walking with Him.
I often use this scripture: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
He truly is a Good Good Father.
In recent months, God has been reminding me that when I was a little girl, and even during that time when I did not fully understand who He was, He was present.
As I have been growing in my relationship with God from 2020 till now, I have continued to learn and embrace the love that He has for me.
God desires intimacy with us.
He seeks relationship.
Even when earlier this year a family member persuaded me to get in contact with my Dad, and again he still let me down.
Though I may not have an earthly father present in my life.
I know that my Heavenly Father is always with me, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
Many people do not have fathers in their lives; it can lead to trust issues, low self-esteem and increased risk of mental health struggles such as depression.
It can lead you searching for that absence of love in the wrong places.
However, we must be reminded that God is a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, and is God in His holy dwelling (Psalm 68:5).
God is our healer and deliverer.
With God in your life, that is all you need.
He is your protector, and He will defend and fight for you.
In God there is no lack.
I used to feel disadvantaged that I did not have a father in my life, but now I feel it is one of my greatest strengths.
The ability to achieve all that I have done so far with God by my side.
This week God has been speaking to me about Psalm 121:4, where it says, “ Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep”.
Like a good Father, God never rests or grows tired.
He is always watching over us.
Allow God today to be your Father.
It is so easy, after dealing with rejection, to fall into people-pleasing.
Multiple acts of service.
With God, you do not have to strive for His attention or affection.
You do not need to earn His love.
Embrace His love and know the love He has for you today and forevermore.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for this day you have made,
We bless you and give you all the honour and praise,
Cleanse us today and fill us with your love,
Thank you for the love that you have for us,
Thank you for your sacrificial love,
May we continue to experience your love,
May we truly know your love,
May be embrace the love of a Father,
Those that feel far from you may they feel your presence,
May they have a deep encounter of you,

One response to “Heavenly Father”
Thank you so much Jaeger. This really blessed me and encouraged me. You should write more when you feel as it was so easy to read and you give God the glory all the way through. I’m so glad you know your Heavenly Father and see His love and care for you. I too have leant on Hebrews 13:5 so much in my life, needing to stand on the promise that God will never leave or forsake me. Thank you for sharing your heart and writing this. God bless you my dear friend and sister in the Lord. Sapphira
